Alma’s life took a dark turn in 2009 when her son passed away suddenly. In the depths of her grief, she even contemplated ending her life, but a whisper of hope saved her. Alma discusses how she battled through severe depression and the stigma surrounding mental health in her community, ultimately finding strength through faith and professional support. Her story of turning pain into purpose is also reflected in her work, where she has established a scholarship fund in her son’s memory and has authored several books, including her latest, “Against All Odds: Surviving a Stroke.”

Despite the many trials she has faced, including homelessness, a failed marriage, and a massive stroke that left her with limited mobility, Alma’s resolve to live a fulfilling life remains unbroken. She continues to inspire others through her writings, virtual speaking engagements, and her advocacy for those in nursing homes.
